Obituary for Christine Louise Merritt

Christine Louise Merritt
Christine Louise Merritt, 64 years of age, passed away at home on November 20th, 2016.

Chris was born on May 17th, 1952. She grew up in Detroit, MI. She earned her degree in education from Eastern Michigan University. She was a dedicated special education and elementary school teacher for over 30 years, a majority of which was spent at St. Stephen School in New Boston, MI.

Chris was a devout Catholic and always held her faith as the most important thing in her life. She attended church regularly with her class during the week and her family on Sundays at St. Stephen Parish. Chris' love was felt by everyone who knew her. She gave everything she had to others and put their needs, especially those of her family and her students, above her own. Her sense of humor was one of her greatest qualities and she kept it until the very end.

Chris' great passion in life was her family. She was married to the love of her life, Doug Merritt for 39 years. Together, they raised 2 loving children, Rob and Rick. Chris enjoyed spending her time playing games, reading, doing puzzles, gardening, being a hockey mom, laughing and enjoying life. Chris' three grandchildren, Taliana, Azara, and Lucas were her pride and joy. She loved teaching them, playing with them, and spoiling them. She also had a very close relationship with her two daughters in law Tavia and Marla.

To know Chris was to love her. She was a remarkable person that will never be forgotten. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

The visitation service will be held Tuesday November 22nd at: Crane Funeral Home -36885 Goddard Rd, Romulus, MI 48174 from 3-9 pm, rosary at 7:30pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday November 23rd at St. Stephen Catholic Church -18858 Huron River Dr, New Boston, MI 48164. She will lie in state at 10 am with a funeral mass to be held at 11am. Directly following mass, the burial will take place at St. Stephen Cemetery. The luncheon will follow at Wayne Tree Manor, located at 31500 Van Born Road, Wayne, Michigan 48184.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the St. Stephen Endowment Fund. If donating by check, please make it payable to St. Stephen Endowment Fund. Donations may be mailed to 18858 Huron River Drive, New Boston, Michigan 48164.
